Armory CEO and Co-Founder Jeff Schur worked with Suzana Apelbaum during her time at Strawberry Frog, when the digital creative director was in need of greater production support and an expanded roster of resources. We asked her what Jeff’s expertise and insight provided. Here’s what she had to say.
When I was at Strawberry Frog we had a challenge in terms of structuring our studio operation and making sure we had the right resources to do the work and to be profitable in the process. This included having the right workflow in place to work efficiently.
Producing digital work in house was a challenge. And I was brought in to push the agency’s digital work, but we didn’t have the capability to produce it to a high enough standard when arrived.
Jeff came in as a consultant and designed a new way for us to work. He provided some brains and some hands, too, in terms of making sure stuff could get done. As a result, there was more security for the creatives. Jeff got it, he understood the challenge of digital work and he knew how it was done and the level of effort required to execute it. He had experience doing this kind of integrated work, stuff that includes print, out of home, mobile, TV, etc.
Jeff knew what was needed here – he knew what vendors to call. He has this magic address book, all these secret weapons. In the process, he helped bring our ideas to life. I was always impressed by the quality of the people Jeff and John brought in to work with us. I remember thinking, ‘These are the people I actually needed, and they all delivered.’
Jeff and his team came in to re-think the structure of the studio, and they evolved to be a great partner for me from a digital standpoint, in terms of finding the right resources. Working with him was like a comfort, and we spread his abilities across all the departments. He was a key for me to deliver what I needed to. We had challenges we didn’t even realize we had, and Jeff helped us address them.
I think the services that Jeff and his people could provide to agencies would be absolutely wonderful. Most agencies don’t really have a clear vision of the workload that’s coming from clients. There can be lots of unpredictability, and it can be hard to handle the surge. Having a partner you can call on anytime, who will have the right people to be able to handle all this, is priceless.
This kind of problem can be overwhelming for an agency, and costly, too, and it can impact the creative ideas and the work. Having someone like Jeff to take care of it lets creatives relax and focus on the creative work. They take care of all the other details.
